Law of Attrition

In war, there is such a term as War of Attrition. This kind of war is the ugliest of all conflicts and battles. This type of war is waged through the continuous battering of the opponent, which causes him to lose men and war materiel so fast that he is forced to surrender and strike down his colors. In medieval times, this is like a siege. Unfortunately, this kind of war is also ever-present in peace.

People see this every day of their lives. Consider the insurance companies. Attrition is the reason why cars depreciate in value per year. Machines that perform well at first tend to break down in quantity and quality of work after so many years. Houses’ values depreciate due to the wear and tear, and the constant ravages of nature. This is also the case with spa businesses. In fact, as these businesses never really close shop as they are mostly open 6 times in a week, the rate of attrition in spas is high.

Buy only the Well-Made

This is the reason why spa owners are advised to buy only the machines and spa tables that are well-made. By purchasing such items with that valued quality, the spa owners can be rest assured that they can use these items far longer than the ones with less quality. It simply would not do for the electric massage table to breakdown while a client is still using it. Or for the spa employees to assure the stressed out clients that the table is ready for use, only to find out when the client is already lying on it that the table is in need of repair and would not start.

The problem with this is that there are many companies today that offer these tables for sale. This makes the job of picking easy in a sense that there are many choices to pick from. The downside of this is that spa owners, especially those that are new in the industry, are left bewildered and confused at how they can possibly make a wise pick out of all the choices. They are, more often than not, left with no choice but to follow the choices made by the sales attendants hook, line and sinker.

How to Choose

In many cases, spa owners choice picks are really the sales attendant’s picks. These decisions can only be good for as long as the sales attendants picked the really good items. Of course, this would have to be taken with a lot of grain of salt as sales attendants have been known to be instructed as to do their utmost best in selling slow-moving products.

In choosing massage tables, spa owners should not go for price alone. Prices are not always the reflection of a product’s real value in terms of quality. They should base their picks in design. The table might be the best, but the color or the design might clash with the motif of the spa’s interiors. Spa owners should learn to trust their instincts in picking. Better yet, if possible lie down on a table before making a decision to purchase. If they are okay with it, then chances are the clients will too.
